Dimitri lives to protect the secret of the Dragon Kings from the human race. Bound by a bond stronger than blood to the Kings, Dimitri uses his strength and prowess to defend a thousand-year-old secret. But when an oh-so-sexy, slightly absent-minded archaeologist wanders into his midst, Dimitri will have to give up his rules, and give in to desire…

When Dr. Faith Reynold stumbles upon an ancient skeleton that appears it comes from a dragon, she’s completely taken aback. A woman of science, there’s no way in her mind that this mythological creature can exist. But when a devilishly handsome man named Dimitri intercepts her path to uncovering the truth, Faith’s curiosity turns into all-consuming passion. She’s never felt this way about any man before. But when Dimitri reveals his biggest secret, can she learn to love the man—as well as the dragon within.

Review

I read my first book by Donna Grant this year and I am hooked on her writing. The most exciting common thread is the world building in the series I have read. Each book stands on its own but the bigger story-line reels you in and keeps you coming back for more. Firestorm is my first book in the Dark Kings series but I loved it and I’m stoked about reading the rest of the series.

Dr. Faith Reynold seems to have stumbled upon the biggest find of her archaeology career in the form of a dragon skeleton, but there are many forces at work trying to thwart her discovery, for various reasons. Dragon King Dimitri has one specific role: destroy the skeleton and keep the existence of dragons secret. But he did not expect Faith and their immediate connection has him hesitating at following through on his original goal, and when an attack forces him to reveal himself to save Faith, well, that goal is dead in the water (no pun intended).

Being that this is the tenth book, it’s a little hard to form a clear picture of the kings without the help of the previous books, but one thing is clear about Dmitri: he is completely loyal to his dragons, his king and their oath to protect humans. He’s a really good guy and I liked that he and the other kings were easy to relate to and did not overly rely on their paranormal abilities.

Faith is quite hard to get a read on. Beyond her dedication to her career, the only thing I can say about her is that she is very independent and is an okay character.

I wish I had a chance to read the previous books before I read this one because I loved this book but it felt like being dropped in the middle of a tornado without warning. What does fate have in store for the kings, their mates and their enemies? Who will come out on top in the end? Will evil triumph over good?

Ms. Grant definitely knows how to craft a complex story-line to enthrall readers. I have more questions than answers and I just want to catch up on the series as quickly as possible. BTW, can we get Con’s story already because I’m not sure I can survive the suspense.

FIRESTORM is amazing and I can only recommend grabbing the entire series as quickly as you can.
