One night with a stranger…
Security expert Mark Matthews has loved, and lost, and has no intention of ever loving again—especially not a woman who thrives on her life being in danger. Now, hot, meaningless sex with strangers he had no intention of ever seeing again? That’s a whole other story. And it’s all life as a single father allows him to enjoy. But when he meets a woman who refuses to tell him her real name, the game is on, because she’s everything he swore to stay away from. Daisy O’Rourke has bad idea written all over her, but he’s in too deep to walk away now…protection. Trouble is, how’s he supposed to defend Emily when she insists on going it alone? He’s willing to put his life on the line for her. Now, maybe, he needs to open his heart.
Review
HIS BEST MISTAKE is an emotionally intense and very sexy story of two veterans of the love wars who have a second chance at forever. The best part is that the raw emotions and the sizzling chemistry between the characters balanced out the drama so well that I never felt like any aspect of the story was too much or not enough.
Both Mark Matthews and Daisy O’Rourke have loved and lost and both have come away from their experiences with different resolutions. For Mark, the number one priority is to never get involved with a woman who puts her life on the line while Daisy has chosen to avoid relationships completely. But a chance meeting at a bar and a compelling attraction that won’t quit puts both of them on a collision course with their own resolutions, especially when it turns out that they have friends in common and would be spending more time than expected in each other’s company.
Ms. Alberts gets better with every new book and it’s obvious that she devoted time to developing the characters because there was a lot to love about the story beyond the heat between Mark and Daisy (not that I was complaining). I love that even though Mark and Daisy had some weighty issues going on, she kept the story interesting with a bit of humor to ease the emotional impact and got me as a reader to be invested in the outcome for them. I’ll admit that there was a fleeting moment where I felt like Mark was skating close to stalker territory but the author turned it around nicely.
While this book is part of a series, each installment stands well on its own, so grab a copy and meet the people at Shillings Agency.
