The bestselling author of the Heller Brothers series stirs up a tempting cocktail of fun and seduction as a sexy SEAL-turned-bartender treats a buttoned-up scientist to a wild weekend . . . and a change of heart.

Former Navy SEAL Beck Whitcomb left a world of privilege to prove he could make his own way. Money, mansions, expensive cars—none of it could heal the loss of his older brother, or buy his parents’ love. Now, after using his trust fund to open the Conquistadors tequila bar with his brothers-in-arms, Beck has it all: good friends, fine liquor, and hot hookups. When it comes to women, commitment’s not his thing—until he gets a taste of the pretty professor who walks into his bar . . . and winds up in his bed.

Hayden Miles knows all too well that emotional decisions can lead to heartbreak, and nothing screams “bad decision” like a playboy bartender with inked biceps and a wicked smile. Still, their chemistry is off-the-charts explosive—and Hayden knows her chemistry. For once, this good girl longs to let loose. But is she willing to risk the pain to quench her thirst? With the promise of more on the table, Hayden’s eager to believe . . . before she misses her shot.

Review

Scorching hot sex and an unexpected romance are on the menu alongside multiple flavors of tequila, when a buttoned-up, reserved scientist loosens up enough to have some fun with a former Navy SEAL turned bartender.

Hayden Miles does not have time for fun. Instead she focuses all her energy on her research and building her fledgling business, but a girl’s got to let her hair down sometimes even if it’s under pressure, right? And what could be more out of the box than a liquor tasting experience? While she’s prepared to force herself to have some fun, her defenses are not strong enough to withstand the attractive bartender who is laser-focused on her. Can she have both her career and a relationship or will she have to choose between them?

Beck Whitcomb walked away from a life of wealth and privilege as the scion of a blue blood family to become a Navy SEAL and he found a place to belong with his brother-in-arms that he could not find with his own family. Opening a bar with his best friends is the next best thing and he’s happy to play the field, until Hayden. What starts out casually is becoming very serious and Beck has to choose between his own happiness and falling in line with the plans his parents have for him.

BODY SHOT was entertaining and I enjoyed the progression of Hayden and Beck’s relationship from casual to serious as well as the lack of angst. The story has a laid-back feel to it, but with undercurrents like Beck’s issues with his family and Hayden’s reasons for being so locked down. I like that both Beck and Hayden were straightforward and no-drama characters who respected each other when they got to know each other better. At the same time though, they both felt a little stereotypical and I wasn’t excited by them. Separately, I enjoyed getting to know them, but as a couple there was some sort of disconnect for me and I just couldn’t muster up enough enthusiasm for their coupledom.

However, I have to admit that Ms. Jamieson excels at delivering blistering passion and there is a lot of that in this book so, if you enjoys reading about sheet-burning sexy times, click away. If you love low drama in your romance, BODY SHOT is the book for you.

About Kelly Jamieson

Kelly Jamieson writes romances with heat that's sweet. Her writing has been described as “emotionally complex”, “sweet and satisfying” and “blisteringly sexy”. If she can stop herself from reading or writing, she loves to cook. She has shelves of cookbooks that she reads at length. She also enjoys gardening in the summer, and in the winter she likes to read gardening magazines and seed catalogues (there might be a theme here...) She also loves shopping, especially for clothes and shoes. But her family takes precedence over everything else (yes, even writing). She has two teenage children who are the best kids in the world, not that she’s biased, and a wonderful husband who does loads of laundry while she plays on the computer writing stories.
