Review
I haven’t read any of Ms. Anderson’s books before now, but she just got added to my list of go-to authors for romantic suspense. COLD HEARTED checks all the boxes for me because it’s just that good. A gripping story, intricate plot, spine-tingling, edge of the seat suspense as well as a romance between complex characters that will have you strongly rooting from them to find their happy ending.
Detective Erin Donovan left her painful past behind to start over at the police department in small town Forbes Pine but it’s been an underwhelming experience so far, especially since she became the most hated person in town after the college’s quarterback was convicted for rape based on her investigation.
When a double homicide turns up a victim with similarities to the previous crimes, Forbes Pines is once again thrown into the spotlight and Erin has to face the possibility that she sent an innocent man to jail. In order to quell rising tensions, FBI Agent Darsh Singh is sent in to assist with the investigation and run a parallel investigation on Erin to determine if her previous investigation was above board.
With a smart and manipulative killer fixated on Erin on the loose, will Erin and Darsh be able to put their less than pleasant past history and the uncontrollable chemistry between them on the back burner and focus on unraveling the case? Or will the killer best them in this cat and mouse game and claim more victims including Erin?
I adore Erin and Darsh so much. They are two imperfect people struggling with personal challenges but dedicated to the law even at a personal cost. Erin is strong and resileint, but also quite stubborn, but Darsh is smooth and more diplomatic, and he stole my heart with the way he supported Erin and defended her. The chemistry between them was fiery hot and irresistible and provided a heartwarming moment for me in the midst of the tense suspnse.
COLD HEARTED is a perfect balance of romance and suspense and nothing is overdone or lacking. Ms. Anderson’s writing is top-notch and thought-provoking and I can honestly say that I loved this book so much I would give more than five stars, if it was possible.
