The Smallest Mistake
Three went in; one came out. For five years, no trace has been found of two high-school friends who went hiking in the woods near Nashville. The third teen, Amber Ryder, was discovered at the bottom of a ravine with a broken arm, head trauma–and zero memory of the horror that put her there.
Will Put You
What started as a cold case has become a fresh hell for forensic technician Georgia Morgan. Another woman’s body is found in the woods, and it leads to the missing teens’ remains. But while Georgia works with Amber to try and reawaken her memories, her gut tells her the worst is yet to come.
At A Killer’s Mercy
Homicide Detective Jake Bishop can’t be sure whether Amber is an expert manipulator or the killer’s next target. Either way, he’s determined to protect Georgia. Because the deeper she digs into the past, the deadlier the secrets that emerge, and a nightmare years in the making is about to come to a bloody, terrifying end…
Review
Greed, sex and murder take center stage in this installment of the Morgans of Nashville. Ms. Burton takes a methodical approach to this story and highlights the fact that sometimes precise, analytical police work is the key to solving crime.
Five years ago, three teens went into the woods on a school project and only one made it out. Now, forensic technician Georgia Morgan has been assigned to look into the cold case with the help of homicide detective Jake Bishop and one phone call is all it takes to open Pandora’s Box. What really happened in the woods that day? Is the sole survivor lying about what happened or did the head trauma really cause her to lose her memories? Is she really a victim or worse?
VULNERABLE is a really twisted tale and almost everyone has a deep dark secret they’ll do anything to keep that way and for a small town, Morgansville certainly has some of the most twisted (I know I already used that word but it bears repeating) people. Just when you think you know what direction the story is going, there is a curve and everything moves in a different direction. The killer is determined to derail the investigation but Georgia and Jake are just as determined to get to the bottom of things. How far will the killer go to keep what happened a secret?
Ms. Burton did a great job with the characters and I found myself chuckling at the interactions between Jake and Georgia. Georgia is smart and dedicated to her job and Jake is a really good cop with great instincts. This case throws them together and gives Jake the perfect opportunity to get close to Georgia but will he be able to handle her fiery nature? The heat level is really low, but it really didn’t matter to me because I was caught up in the actual suspense and mystery.
This is more of psychological suspense than an action-packed shoot out, but I found it just as interesting and I’ll recommend it to any fan of romantic suspense who wants a change of pace from the high octane and fast paced books.
