Six years earlier, Trina Grissom disappeared, on the run for her life. Now living under an assumed identity—as Samantha Marsh—she still struggles with the dark secret she harbors and the fear she might one day be found. When she moves to the coastal town of Rarity Cove, South Carolina, to open a café, a handsome widower begins to chip away at the walls she’s built to protect herself.

Mark St. Clair lost his wife two years ago in a tragic accident. Head of the grand St. Clair resort, he distracts himself from his lingering grief by running the family business and caring for his troubled young daughter…until a beautiful restaurateur sets up shop in town. Before meeting Samantha, Mark was convinced he could never be drawn to another woman. But as his attraction to Samantha grows, the mystery surrounding her deepens.

As the two begin a hesitant courtship, double perils emerge. Someone from Samantha’s lurid past comes calling, threatening to expose her. And a powerful hurricane is forming in the Atlantic with the small beach town in its path. Trapped in the storm by the brutal man who wants vengeance on Samantha, she and Mark must fight for their lives.

Review

I absolutely love BEFORE THE STORM! It’s well written, with an engaging plot, suspenseful and will have you experiencing a variety of emotions – from anticipation to terror and everything in between – alongside the characters!

Samantha Marsh has not had an easy life but Rarity Cove, South Carolina is her chance to start over and make something of her life, and her business Café Bella is it. Her secrets are so dangerous and sordid that she has chosen a lifetime of solitude over dragging any man into the mess of her life and her attraction to a member of Rarity Cove’s leading family, while unexpected but very tempting, is not going to change her mind. What Samantha does not count on is her hunger for a connection and how safe Mark makes her feel.

Since the death of his wife in a car accident, Mark St. Clair has buried himself in his work running the family hotel and taking care of his five-year old daughter and despite pressure from his family, he has resisted all involvement. That changes when Samantha Marsh sets up shop in Rarity Cove. For the first time since his wife’s death, Mark is interested in a woman and determined to win her over despite her reluctance to get involved with him and the secrets she obviously has.

But secrets never stay that way for long and unfortunately, Samantha’s carefully constructed life begins to unravel when her past follows her to Rarity Cove and her secrets are exposed. Mark also has to contend with frayed familial relationships and the interference of well-intentioned family members.

Danger, secrets and complex sibling relationships combine to make BEFORE THE STORM very appealing. Ms. Tentler creates very interesting characters and I love the deliberate and measured pace of the book, how every scene was calculated to add to the story, from Samantha and Mark’s first meeting to the explosive end, and how even the most ordinary scenes had a thread of tension woven through them and kept me on edge, just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

  1. Wow, your review really sold me on this one! The plot seems really intriguing; dark pasts that come back to haunt you make for the best storylines. Thanks for such a thoughtful, well-written review!

    • Thanks:)! I really enjoyed it! I’ve read some reviews where the readers complained that it took a while to get to the action, but I think that’s the best thing about it because it shows how even when things are going well, everything can change in a split second.
