The author of Flirting with Scandal presents her third book in a sexy contemporary romance series about three sisters in a powerful political family, the scandals that threaten to destroy them, and the passion that drives them…

Kate Reynolds has just graduated from college and is determined to make it on her own. Her job as a junior political analyst at the CIA is a dream come true and the perfect opportunity to find answers about the night that’s plagued her for four years—the night she lost her fiancé, Matt, on a Special Forces mission in Afghanistan. Kate’s consumed with uncovering the truth and avenging the man she loved and lost, even if it means risking her own life to prove that his death wasn’t an accident.

When she gets too close to discovering what happened that fateful night and danger arrives on her doorstep, Kate’s stunned by the man who comes to her rescue. Together, they begin to dig for the truth, fighting to stay alive as they’re dragged down into a world of secrets and lies. But when the threat hits close to home, Kate must choose between vengeance and a future with the man who’s ignited a fire inside her that she thought died long ago.

Review

Kate Reynolds has never been the same since the death of her fiancé, Matt, a Special Forces soldier on an operation in Afghanistan four years ago. Driven by her grief at his loss and her suspicions that his death was not an accident, she has dedicated her life to exposing the truth about what really happened. Her college degree, her career choice as a CIA analyst, event her brief stint as a blogger for the Capital Confessions blog have all been with the ultimate goal of avenging Matt’s death, regardless of the cost and the potential danger to her.

And it appears that she is getting close to the truth because she’s become the target of a home invasion and a street mugging, both aimed at divesting her of the cache of documents she amassed and stopping her investigation. However, she gets help from the last person she ever expected: a scarred, hardened warrior with an even bigger stake in unraveling the truth of that mission. Joining forces, they uncover a treasonous plot to provide arms to warlords with interests in direct conflict with those of the US, a plot fueled by the need for power and financial gain, a plot that, if exposed could lead to the downfall of very powerful men, the kind of men that are very ruthless in neutralizing any threats to their positions.

This installment of the series was quite different from the previous books and the intensity from the first page just ratchets up and up, keeping me glued to the pages. Also, a lot of what has driven Kate’s choices from the previous books becomes clearer. You can’t help but admire her for her determination to find out what happened to the love of her life and her fearlessness in taking on what amounts to Goliath, even as you fear for her safety and her chances of coming out unharmed, because Kate and her savior appear to be playing catch up as every one of their sources gets systematically eliminated as the conspirators clean house.

With her world turned upside down, Kate finds herself playing for higher stakes and hopeful for the first time after losing Matt that there could be happiness in her future but she is not the girl she once was and her battle scarred warrior is not the young boy he was. In spite of that, they have a chance to create a future for themselves that may not be conventional but is exactly what works for them. After Kate’s antics in Playing with Trouble, I wasn’t sure I would care much for her but I really was surprised. She is passionate, stubborn and holds nothing back.

FALLING FOR DANGER is full of surprises, intense action, danger and lots of emotions. I have mixed feelings about the end but I’m glad that Kate got closure, although in a less spectacular fashion than I would have preferred. I definitely did not expect this series to go in this direction but I love that Ms. Cleeton was able to combine all the different story-lines into a truly exceptional series. I really wish there were some more Reynolds sisters coming out of the woodwork because I don’t want this series to end and I look forward to more from her.

About Chanel Cleeton

Originally a Florida girl, CHANEL CLEETON moved to London where she received a bachelor’s degree from Richmond, The American International University in London and a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Chanel fell in love with London and planned to stay there forever, until fate intervened on a Caribbean cruise and a fighter pilot with smooth dance moves swept her off her feet. Now, a happily ever after later, Chanel is living her next adventure.

Law school made Chanel realize she’d rather spend her days writing sexy stories than in a courtroom, and she hasn’t looked back since. An avid reader and hopeless romantic, she’s happiest curled up with a book. She has a weakness for handbags, her three pups, and her husband.

Chanel writes contemporary romances. She is published by Harlequin HQN, Penguin/InterMix, and Penguin/Berkley and is the author of the International School, Capital Confessions, and Wild Aces series.
