She wanted fantasy. He’s about to make it a reality…

Grant Osprey just had the hottest sex of his life. Sure, they were both in costume, and yes, it was anonymous, but he never expected her to bolt in the middle of the night without so much as a good bye, let alone exchanging numbers. Or names. All he’s left with are her panties and some seriously X-rated memories…until he meets his business partner’s little sister.

Only Chloe Talley isn’t the bold, sexy vixen he remembers. And she wants nothing to do with him.

Cosplay is Chloe’s only chance to leave her boring, socially awkward world behind. To forget that she’s failing at life and can’t be with anyone, let alone a single-father like Grant. But the raw hunger between them is undeniable. With him, she can be a misbehaving maid. A sexy call girl for hire. Each scene pushes Chloe beyond her strict boundaries, until Grant demands the one character she can’t play.

Herself.

Review

Cosplay? Gamers? Role-play? Yeah, I’m completely out of my element so I blew past those references to what’s familiar: relationships. I really dislike timid, mousy heroines and could not for the life of me understand Chloe’s need to express herself by playing a role. She’s pretty and successful and even though I don’t get gamers, I get that being a woman in a male-dominated field like hers is a huge achievement and should be enough to make her confident but Chloe is socially awkward and very reserved. Attending the Comic Con gives her the opportunity to be someone else and of course she picks a character that is very far from who she really is and the result? The hottest sex of her life with a very sexy guy!

Grant Osprey is a single father and between his daughter and his job, he has very little time for anything remotely resembling fun so the Comic Con is his chance to cut loose and enjoy himself and if it leads to a passionate and uninhibited encounter, he’s definitely not going to pass up on that but he does not expect her to sneak out while he’s asleep without leaving him any contact information. When an chance encounter reveals his hook-up as the younger sister of his business partner, Grant is quick to express his interest in getting to know here better but this Chloe is very far from the bold and confident woman he met before, unwilling to acknowledge the chemistry between them unless she could assume another persona. Grant wants the real Chloe but he’ll take her however he can get her, for the moment. And through a series of coincidences, they find themselves being thrown together many times.

PLAYING FOR HER HEART was fun to read and I really liked Grant and how tenacious he was. He was not willing to give up on Chloe, he made sure that she know that she was wanted, that she mattered and it was just what she needed after being ignored for most of her life by her family.

While the emotional issues got tedious after a bit, there was enough steam to balance them out.  Chloe really was all of those personas she played at. Yes, she was shy but when she let herself go, she was fun, confident, outspoken, very sexy, open and playful and Grant brought out the best in her. I really liked Chloe’s brother, Ethan too and while broody and damaged heroes are not my thing, I really want to know more about him and I hope that the next book will be his story.

About Megan Erickson

My first stories written in crayon-scrawl on loose-leaf notebook paper were about my childhood pet — a deaf cat with dandruff. And after covering real-life dramas as a journalist, I decided I liked writing my own endings better and switched to fiction. My romance novels full of humor and heart are a far cry from those early scribblings about my hygiene-deficient pet.

I live in southern Pennsylvania, with my husband, two kids and two cats. I like a good pint of beer, a greasy bacon cheeseburger, homemade mac and cheese, and a great book with a happily ever after. When I’m not tapping away on my laptop, I’m probably listening to the characters in my head who just. Won’t. Shut. Up.
