From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sandra Brown comes a gripping story of family ties and forbidden attraction.

A Texas Ranger, relegated to deskwork due to past recklessness, petitions to regain custody of his five-year-old daughter, and his case is assigned to a family court judge who is as attractive as she is ambitious. When a masked gunman barges in during the custody hearing with his sights on the judge, the Ranger reacts instinctually and goes after him. But authorities apprehend the wrong man, and the real gunman remains unknown, at large, and a threat. Will this take-charge lawman jeopardize his chances of custody by going after the would-be assassin? And will this unlikely pair be able to deny the forbidden attraction building between them?

Review

If you love absorbing, edge of your seat, page-turning thrillers, the kind that you find very difficult to put down, then you really can’t go wrong with anything written by Sandra Brown.

Rugged Texas Ranger Crawford Hunt is in the midst of a custody fight for his little girl and with a well-deserved reputation for recklessness, he can’t afford to step out of line, but when an armed gunman engages in a shooting spree during the custody hearing, Crawford reacts instinctively, protecting the presiding judge from taking a bullet and then chasing after the shooter.

Judge Holly Spencer knows that she owes her life to the fast acting Ranger and as survivors of that experience, a bond forms between them. When that bond grows into a forbidden attraction, she knows that her impartiality has been compromised and must recuse herself from the case. Judge Spencer is a temporary appointee to her position and with the election coming up, she is in a high-stakes fight to prove that she is worthy of the position and her attraction to Crawford is sure to affect her ambitions.

Crawford is a man with a predilection for bending the rules to achieve results but he must curtail his cowboy tendencies in order to protect the judge not only from the assassin, but also from himself.

The resultant discovery that the wrong man was apprehended and the real gunman is still unaccounted for means that Crawford must join in the search for the assassin, even if this could jeopardize his chances of gaining custody of his daughter. What everyone does not know is that the shootout in the courtroom is the opening salvo in an intricate plot of revenge and the target is not Judge Spencer as assumed, but Crawford Hunt and things will only get worse.

FRICTION was an absolutely gripping read, filled with twists, conspiracies, secrets, danger and passion; a story about family and bonds of love and how far the boundaries can be pushed to protect loved ones.
