Cedar Ridge, Colorado, is famous for crisp mountain air, clear blue skies, and pine-scented breezes. And it’s the last place Lily Danville wants to be. But she needs a job, and there’s an opening at the hottest resort in her hometown. What has her concerned is the other hot property in Cedar Ridge: Aidan Kincaid-firefighter, rescue worker, and heartbreaker. She never could resist that devastating smile . . .

The Kincaid brothers are as rough and rugged as the Rocky Mountains they call home. Aidan has always done things his own way, by his own rules. And never has he regretted anything more than letting Lily walk out of his life ten years ago. If anyone has ever been in need of rescuing, she has. What she needs more than anything are long hikes, slow dances, and sizzling kisses. But that can only happen if he can get her to give Cedar Ridge-and this bad boy-a second chance . . .

Review

I love reading about uniformed men and lately my focus has been on firefighters so when two of my favorite things- Jill Shalvis and firefighters – come together, you know for sure it will be a winning combination. By chance, I stumbled upon one of Jill’s posts with a picture of Aidan Kincaid which just made my day! ICYMI, you can check it out here, be warned: open on the sly. But I digress.

Welcome to rugged and beautiful Cedar Ridge, Colorado, home to the hot and hunky Kincaid brothers. Aidan Kincaid’s biggest regret was letting Lily Danville leave Cedar Ridge ten years ago without telling her how he felt about her. Now that she’s back temporarily, he’s going to do everything possible to convince her to stay for good.

Lily Danville hightailed it out of Cedar Ridge ten years ago after tragedy struck and even though she had no plans to return, she needs a place to hole up for a bit while she gets her life back on track. Being back is hard on Lily because of the memories but also because seeing Aidan would remind her of what she could never have. Too bad for her that she keeps crossing paths with him all the time and her resistance is wearing thin.

Ms. Shalvis excels at writing sexy, protective and take-charge heroes who are also very sweet and Aidan is no different. Aidan is a nuturer by nature, always putting everyone else before himself and it’s no surprise that he found a career in firefighting and Search & Rescue. And Lily clearly needs rescuing. Lily has been shut down emotionally for a long while and she carries guilt from the events long ago, the kind of guilt that makes her unable to open up and accept love from anyone, but being home is also good because she begins to remember the good stuff as well and even though it take a while she is able to open herself up. Aidan also has his own emotional baggage from a philandering father with several families and even though he will go to the ends of the earth for his family, he’s not been open to anything more than a good time from women until Lily.

I absolutely adored Aidan and Lily together and every kiss, every touch, every word between them warmed my heart. I loved the family dynamics with the siblings and their friends always teasing and pranking each other, but also their protectiveness for each other and their determination to save the family business.

SECOND CHANCE SUMMER is classic Jill Shalvis and it works all the time – lovable characters, emotional story, witty dialogue but always fun, always sweet, always sexy and a great start to the series!
