In seaside Blueberry Cove, Maine, friends are just another word for family, and big-city politics take a backseat to local pride. But the real treasure on these shores is always love…

When D.C. lawyer Hannah McCrae heads home for her brother’s wedding, she’s dragging a lot of baggage along with her—and she doesn’t mean suitcases. Betrayed personally, and humiliated professionally, the last thing she wants is a new man. That’s fine with square-jawed, rugged contractor Calder Blue. He and Hannah may be wildly attracted to one another, but all he wants is to build the town’s hotly contested new yacht club and mend a centuries-old family feud. Yet thanks to resentments old and new, day after day the pair wind up tangled in each other’s business—and maybe soon in each other’s arms.

Every bride needs something “blue”…

Review

SEA GLASS SUNRISE is the very first book by Donna Kauffman I’ve read and can I say it’s a fantastic start to the series?!

Hannah McCrae is headed home to Blueberry Cove, Maine for her brother’s wedding, leaving behind the wreckage of her personal and professional lives in DC, with no plans to return. First up is a traffic accident with hot contractor Calder Blue. With the baggage from her ruined relationship weighing her down, the last thing Hannah is looking for is a man, but she keeps crossing paths with Calder at every turn.

Calder is in Blueberry Cove to discuss a job but also to explore the possibility of mending a centuries-old family feud and getting involved with Hannah is definitely not on the list. Problem is, Blueberry Cove is so small that every time he turns around, Hannah is there and he now knows that his initial impression of her is very far from who she actually is. Also, he needs to focus on his reason for being there especially now that he is a person of interest in a criminal investigation.

Okay, I love this story, I love Hannah and Calder and I love the small town of Blueberry Cove! As expected in the first book of a series, there is a lot of information and sub-plots, but all of that only serves to make me eager to read the rest of the books. I really liked that even though there was an instant attraction between Hannah and Calder, Ms. Kauffman took the time to develop the characters. Calder is easygoing, confident and steady with a big heart, the kind of guy that slides right under Hannah’s defenses and she does not see coming. Hannah was tough and even though she had been humiliated and her confidence in herself all but destroyed by what happened, I like that she found herself again: the soft, laid-back small-town girl, not the tough, ball-busting lawyer she had become in DC. I enjoyed the lighthearted, flirty conversations between them, the heartfelt and deep talks and even their internal dialogue, all of which serve as foreplay and build up the steamy chemistry between them.

I also enjoyed the secondary characters, especially the sisters and I found myself smiling at their interactions because they remind me of my sisters. I love that they were very open and welcoming to their brother’s fiancée and I honestly can’t wait for their stories.

SEA GLASS SUNRISE is the perfect small-town romance with just enough drama, mystery and minimal angst in a fabulous setting! Definitely one to read.

About Donna Kauffman

USA Today bestselling author of the Cupcake Club Romance series, Donna Kauffman has seen her books reviewed in venues ranging from Kirkus Reviews and Library Journal to Entertainment Weekly and Cosmopolitan. She lives just outside of DC in the lovely Virginia countryside, where she is presently trying to makeover her newly empty nest into something that doesn’t have to accommodate piles of sports equipment falling out of her coat closet (okay, out of every closet...and under every bed....), size 13 cleats and sweaty uniforms cluttering her foyer (and stairwell, and laundry room, and...), and a kitchen that should have come with a traffic light. And a pantry monitor. (Anyone with a clever idea on how to repurpose lacrosse sticks into matching reading lamps, she’s all ears!) When she’s not stripping paint, varnishing an old auction house find, or trying to avoid bodily injury with her latest power tool purchase, she loves to hear from readers!
