Readers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Bared to You will savor a visit to Club Inferno, the sensual playground where glitz and glamour mix with leather and whips.

Deep in the shadows of her exclusive fashion resort, Couture, Colleen Bryant presides over a much more intimate world: Club Inferno. The successful businesswoman and sex instructor has built an empire that caters to the BDSM elite, but now she finds herself longing for something a bit more ordinary: a man to love. She’s not sure how to find someone who will accept what she does for a living—or the kinks that drive her wild—until her old flame, ex-pro football player Chase Fairwood, comes back in her life.

There’s no woman as hot, sexy, or exciting as Colleen—and Chase knows it. He also knows he’s man enough to play her games, and to give as good as he gets. His return to Club Inferno reignites Colleen’s scorching demands, along with a new determination to test his resolve. Soon he’s competing against a rival Dom to brand Colleen as his own. But Chase has a secret weapon: the burning desire to offer his body—and his heart—in sweet surrender.

Fever is intended for mature audiences.

Review

This is my first read by Jamie K. Schmidt and I was curious especially since the dominant character is a female, a departure from the usual.

Colleen Bryant is a very successful and independent business woman, a Domme and the owner of Club Inferno. But success has eluded her in one area: her personal life. She wants a man of her own, one who would be accepting of her lifestyle.

Enter Chase Fairwood. Ten years ago, Chase and Colleen were in a relationship that ended badly. Chase went on to have a successful football career until he got sidelined by an injury. With all that time on his hands, Chase is forced to admit to himself that his biggest mistake was letting  Colleen walk away and is persistent in his bid to win her back, despite her rejection of him.

In the time since their break-up, Colleen went on to marry a rich, older man who introduced her to the BDSM lifestyle and left her a rich widow, affording her the chance to enjoy her alternate lifestyle lavishly. Colleen was destroyed by her break up with Chase and is now determined that the only way Chase would be a part of her life is as her submissive.

I really like Colleen because she is in charge of her life and lives it on her own terms, with no apologies.  However, her past has made her wary of giving up control to any man and her career as a Domme is her way of being in control. Chase is not really submissive, but is willing to become one as a means to getting Colleen to open up to him again. His only problem is that he has a very short fuse and is quick to get angry and jump to incorrect conclusions. Their relationship is a very volatile one as they struggle to get beyond the issues from their past and forge a future for themselves. As their story unfolds, it’s very clear that they will never be in a real D/s relationship. What they have is second chance at love with a lot of kink thrown in! And honestly, at the end of the book, you can see how far they have come as individuals and as a couple. Fever is great writing from Ms. Schmidt and highly recommended by me.
