I received this book for free from the Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
In the second seductive Lost novel from New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden, an obsessed Last Option Search Team agent goes looking for trouble—and finds her in the Big Easy.
Dean Bannon comes to New Orleans for one reason only: to track down a missing sixteen-year-old girl. That’s before he meets the drop-dead gorgeous con artist who makes him want to lose his legendary control.
With her past, Emma Castille doesn’t claim to be psychic. She just notices things other people don’t. Like the fear in a runaway’s eyes-or the pain in an ex-FBI agent’s heart. Her chemistry with Dean is blistering, but Emma follows her passion . . . not someone else’s orders.
Then a madman breaks into Emma’s home and leaves a twisted message: “You’re next.” Now Dean refuses to let her out of his sight until he pries every last secret from her full, sexy lips. And suddenly Emma’s aching to give him everything he wants.
I love the vibe and flavors of New Orleans and when I read the blurb of this book, I was really looking forward to reading it. As much as I loved BROKEN, TWISTED completely blew me away and I could not breathe through the tension! I had to skip to the end to find out who the bad guy was! Terrible, I know but I just could not hold out and I read it all in one sitting.
Dean Bannon is in New Orleans to find a missing teenager and so far, the only person to have seen her is fortune-teller Emma Castille. In actuality, Emma is not a psychic but has been well trained to pick up cues that the everyday person does not. As his only lead so far, Dean is planning on sticking very close to Emma even though he thinks she is just a con artist, and even more so when Emma’s home gets vandalized and she’s threatened.
Emma and Dean are so alike in so many ways. They are both bold, tenacious and fiercely protective of those they care about. Together, they make a formidable team especially against the villain they are up against. However, the attraction between them could also be their downfall because the killer is wants to hit Dean where it would hurt the most and Emma may be the tool he uses.
Emma is my favorite heroine so far this year. She’s sassy, fearless, a survivor, a fighter, a warrior and best of all, she lives to shred Dean’s ironclad control to pieces! I’m telling you, watching Dean lose control may have been the best thing about this book for me. Not really. Emma knows what she wants and is not afraid to reach out for it.
“When you kiss me again, do it right. Kiss me hard and deep, kiss me like you need to have me that very minute. I didn’t spend all this time working to get past your control so that we could go back to the beginning.” Her gaze held his. “I want everything from you, and in return, well, everything is absolutely what I’ll give you … I won’t break. I won’t even bruise. I can take everything you’ve got—I want it all”.
I love that she had a skill that she could bring to the team and prove that she has value. It’s not just about getting the hot agent for her, but also about finding a place for herself on the LOST team. Even though most of the team did not trust Emma initially, she proves herself to them and also vindicates her late father as well.
Dean initially was not my favorite guy because of how rigid he was but underneath that veneer of control was a very a very primitive man, especially where Emma’s well-being was concerned.
“Because you are everything that I want, Emma. Every dream I’ve ever had, dreams I didn’t even know about. I look at you, and I want a future. I want a life with you. I can give you time. I can court you, I can do charm, I can do anything for you”.
With TWISTED, passion, suspense and danger make for very a exciting read and Ms. Eden demonstrates why her writing is so addictive.
