Only something as important as her best friend’s wedding to mob boss Gabriel Moretti could allow Nika Paynne a reprieve from captivity. Her abusive husband has kept her under his thumb with footage of her beloved brother, Caleb, killing another man. But the respite from her violent life isn’t the only draw. Vincente Romani—Gabriel’s deadliest guardian—will be one of the best men at the wedding, and Nika has lingering thoughts about the fascinating mobster…covetous thoughts that may put her life in danger.

With the heartbreak he’s suffered and the brutality he effortlessly delivers, Vincente knows he’s the last person who can offer Nika a happily-ever-after. But his vow remains. He will do everything in his power to free his redhead from her violent prison—even if that means losing her forever.

In the second thrilling and passionate Wanted Men book, a dangerous line is drawn between loyalty to the mob and loyalty to one’s heart.

Review

As much as I loved A Love of Vengeance, THE SALVATION OF VENGEANCE completely blew me away! Ms. Haviland gives us an incredible story that far exceeds the first one: a brooding and protective hero, an amazing and strong woman willing to go through hell to protect her loved one and a steamy and tumultuous but ultimately healing love. From the first page I was completely drawn into Nika and Vincente’s story.

Nika Paynne has been in prison for the past year, subjected to emotional and physical abuse and her jailer is her husband. Blackmailed into marriage to protect her brother and unable to share what she was going through with those closest to her, Nika has been waiting for the perfect opportunity to get hold of the incriminating evidence and make her escape and the opportunity presents itself on the trip to New York for Eva and Gabriel’s wedding.  When the entire group finds out what she has been going through since her marriage, all bets are off and everyone is all in to make sure that her husband pays for his treatment of her, especially Vincente.

Vincente is a protector at the core of him and as the underboss for the Moretti crime family, he has seen his fair share of violence. However, he is haunted by the loss of his sister, the one person he was not able to protect and when he discovers the extent of the abuse Nika has gone through, he is compelled to protect and take care of her. The attraction between Nika and Vincente is very obvious to their friends, but they both have to overcome their pasts and heal before they can explore and enjoy the love brewing between them.

The sheer intensity of the emotions evoked by this story is beyond words. From pain and anguish to happiness and everything in between, readers will definitely experience it all. The characters are so well-written that it is hard to believe that the author is relatively new. Vincente is swoon-worthy and complicated: on one hand he is the Reaper, a brutal and lethal enforcer who metes out  mob justice to those deemed deserving of it and the other hand he is this protective and sweet yet damaged champion. Nika is amazing and strong, but some of the choices she made regarding the threat to her brother were annoying and naive to me. I love that the secondary characters were still a big part of the story and I love that we get pieces of the story through the eyes of a secondary character and not just the main characters. I love everything about THE SALVATION OF VENGEANCE and can’t wait for the next in the series.

Warning: The story contains instances of domestic violence, so beware.
