Dixie Lee Brown concludes her thrilling Trust No One series with the fast-paced tale of a damaged hero and the sexy fugitive he can’t help falling for.

Samantha “Mac” McCallister barely believes her own tale of dirty cops and murder that landed her in the hands of the sexy Jim Brady. One minute she was enjoying a ride-along in her best friend’s cruiser, the next he’s dead and she’s wanted for his murder. Mac never expected to be hiding out from the law, but with Jim by her side, maybe she can survive long enough to clear her name. The question is, can she survive the way Jim makes her feel?

Former Navy Seal Jim Brady works best under pressure. At least he used to. Now, fighting flashbacks from his time in Iraq, he has given up everything he knows in order to protect the innocent … from himself. So working with a woman on the run from the law? Not in his plans for this lifetime. Still, something about the blue-eyed beauty tells him she’s not the source of the danger—she’s running from it. Deep down he knows he’ll protect her no matter what. But his heart? That’s another story.

Tempt the Night begins with a bang (or several) literally and the action just keeps on. Samantha “Mac” McCallister is in the wrong place at the wrong time, a witness to the murder of her friend, an Alaskan state trooper by his colleagues and is forced to go on the run. Framed for murder, she is now being hunted by both the law and the bad guys. A last-minute lifeline from her friend leads her to Jim Brady. Jim is a former Navy SEAL now working as a private contractor. On a trip to Alaska to find a missing person, he encounters Mac and is drawn into the danger and intrigue surrounding her.

Mac was surprisingly resourceful and good at keeping herself under the radar but was woefully out of her depth when she met Jim and he stepped up to protect her. Nothing like a damsel in distress to awaken all those Sir Galahad tendencies. The attraction between them was hot and instantaneous, heightened by the danger surrounding them, but Jim was suffering from PTSD and prone to uncontrollable fits of rage and had chosen to be alone to protect others from himself so he could only offer Mac a short-term fling.

I was pleasantly surprised by Tempt the Night. The action was intense and the kind that keeps the heart rate up. The characters were engaging and likable and their development was done really well. Mac was gutsy, smart and daring and these qualities came in handy several times. Jim was exactly what you would expect from men of his ilk: a warrior who had to be in control of everyone and everything, which made for interesting times! Tempt the Night hits all the right notes: intense action and passionate chemistry.
