The first novel in New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden’s sizzling LOST series introduces the Last Option Search Team, an elite unit that must protect the only surviving victim of a serial killer.
Ex-SEAL and LOST founder Gabe Spencer is accustomed to the unusual in his job. But when knockout Eve Gray steps into his office, he’s rattled. For the mysterious woman is a dead ringer for the heiress thought to be the latest prey of the serial killer who goes by the name Lady Killer.
When Eve awoke in an Atlanta hospital, her past was a blank slate. Then she recognized her own face in the newspaper and vowed to learn the truth. Determined to confront the nightmares hidden in her mind, she never expects to find a partner in Gabe.
As Gabe and Eve work together, their explosive attraction becomes irresistible. Gabe knows that his desire for Eve is growing too strong, bordering on a dangerous obsession, but nothing pulls him away from her. And when another Eve lookalike disappears, Gabe vows to protect Eve at all costs. While Eve may have forgotten the killer in her past, it’s clear he hasn’t forgotten her.
BROKEN is exactly what we have come to expect from Cynthia Eden – dramatic suspense, secrets, consuming emotions and multi-faceted characters!
Eve Gray is on a quest to find out her identity and has enlisted Gabe Spencer and his team at LOST to help unravel the mystery. She has no memory of her past but bears an eerie resemblance to a missing heiress suspected of being a victim of the serial killer nicknamed the Lady Killer. One look at Eve and Gabe loses his objectivity. He wants Eve with a burning passion and Eve wants him just as badly. The Lady Killer wants Eve just as much and will stop at nothing to get to the one victim that got away and is very bold in his attempts to get at her. Gabe will go to any lengths to protect Eve and as part of trying to revive Eve’s memories, the team travels to Dauphin Island where some of the serial killer’s victims were found and where the missing heiress lived.
The story is a roller-coaster ride, filled with so many twists, so many possible suspects, so many secrets and half-truths and had me turning the pages very fast even as I was apprehensive about what the next page would reveal. The suspense is at the heart of the story but does not detract from the intense romance between Gabe and Eve. The characters are exactly what I look forward to from Ms. Eden: a tortured, possessive hero with dark secrets and an almost obsessive passion for the heroine; a heroine who may not be what she seems to be, with potentially deadly secrets and a sadistic and depraved killer.
I absolutely love Cynthia Eden’s writing for the simple reason that her stories always draw me in completely, the suspense is always riveting and heart-pounding and BROKEN is Cynthia Eden at her best.
Even as we are completely drawn into the cat-and-mouse game being played by the killer, the stage is being set for more stories on the rest of the team and I look forward to reading their stories.
