As an elite Alliance agent—the joint undercover operation of MI6, the British Secret Intelligence Service, and the CIA—Ford Decker lives for the adrenaline. But when he befriends sexy property manager Shay Alexander in hopes of finding her cousin, a known national security threat, Ford crosses the line, getting to know her better . . . in bed.
After being burned by her last relationship, Shay wants to take things slow. Yet she can’t keep her hands off the drop-dead gorgeous hottie who’s moved into her apartment building. So when Ford’s identity as an undercover agent is exposed, his betrayal cuts deep. Shay never wants to see him again, but Ford can’t let her go, not when her life is still in danger. He will sacrifice everything to protect her, then be prepared to walk away from the only woman he’s ever loved, even if it breaks him.
Question of the day: what would you do if you discovered that the guy you had been getting down and dirty with had been lying to you all along about his identity? Especially if you had already been taken in by a scheming gold-digger?
Shay Alexander has yet to play a winning hand in the love stakes and she is understandably wary of jumping into bed with a guy she barely knows, but she cannot for the life of her figure out how she got to doing the horizontal mambo with the hottie who just moved into her building within a few days of meeting him.The hottie is Ford Decker, an undercover operative with Alliance, a covert agency and his mission is to find Shay’s cousin, Trent who stole a toxic substance from his job at a US government lab. Ford is going to use every tool available in this mission, including getting into bed with Shay, to get his man.
Well, you know what they say about the well-laid plans of mice and men… Shay is smart, sexy, down to earth and what should have been an easy operation becomes anything but that as Ford finds himself breaking the rules to be with her.
I really, really liked Shay because she was smart, observant and had good instincts. She knew something was off with both Trent and Ford and just kept searching for answers in spite of the lies she was being fed. Did I mention bold? Yes, she was definitely not subtle or into games. Poor Ford. He fell so hard for Shay that he did not know if he was coming or going. I really enjoyed Ford. His conflict over the job he had to do and his feelings for Shay, his guilt over his deceit, all of it made for pleasant reading.
I loved, loved, loved the hopping pace of the story. It was fast and you won’t want to put it down. I know I did not and I finished it within a few hours. There was a lot attention to detail, those tiny details that just make a story and it felt like I was watching an episode of Homeland or a similar show about covert operatives. Playing Dirty is definitely one I will be reading over and over again and I am already looking forward to rest of the books in the series.
To answer my question, knowing me, I’d probably be indecisive about my response and miss the perfect chance to just respond! Share your thoughts in the comments below.
