THERE’S A NEW BRIDE IN TOWN!

Hope Scroggs is finally ready to get hitched. After years of sowing her wild oats, the former head cheerleader and homecoming queen has returned to Bramble, Texas, to marry her high school flame. But her perfect wedding plans are stomped to smithereens when her adoring cowboy two-steps down the aisle with someone else. Now Hope is stuck with the one man from her past she can’t shake: Colt Lomax, an irresistible bad boy whose sultry kisses are hotter than the Panhandle in August . . .

Colt lives for freedom and the open road; he never gets attached, never looks back. Still, he can’t forget the night of passion he once shared with Bramble’s sweetheart–a night he wouldn’t mind repeating. So, he piles on the Texas charm to tease the feisty beauty back into his bed, while she tries her darnedest to resist. But something unexpected is about to tie their fates together . . . and oh, baby, will it ever!

A small-town romance done right!

Hope Scroggs is the sweetheart of Bramble, Texas and Colt Lomax has always been Bramble’s bad boy.

Hope spent five years unsuccessfully trying her hand at acting in Hollywood and has returned to Bramble, Texas to implement her fallback plan – marry hometown football hero, Slate Calhoun. Unfortunately for Hope, Slate is headed down the aisle with her twin sister Faith, a sister she did not even know she had and she is left on the sidelines with plan B in tatters and no plan C in sight!

Colt Lomax was from the wrong side of the tracks, and no-one believed that he would ever amount to anything, a belief he let mold his bad boy image in Bramble. He has always like Hope and expressed this by playing pranks on her when they were younger. He didn’t think that he could be good enough for Hope and knew that she had set her sights on the town’s golden boy so rather than stick around to see the woman he wanted for himself marry someone else, he left Bramble and went on to become a successful custom motorcycle designer in California, contrary to the town’s belief that he was an ex-con.

With their return to town, Hope and Colt step back into their childhood personas as the town sweetheart who can do no wrong and the ne’er-do-well bad boy.  As the story unfolds, we see that Hope is actually very afraid of being exposed as a failure and hides her insecurities behind her feisty and sassy exterior and Colt would rather hide behind the bad boy shield than show the town that he rose above his past and was successful.

Thrown into the mix is the rest of the well-meaning and meddlesome townsfolk! Hiring a bounty hunter to track down Hope’s “baby daddy” leads to some very funny occurrences. Poor Matthew McConaughey!

I absolutely loved reading this story for several reasons: the story held my attention and flowed seamlessly. Katie Lane painted a very vivid picture of small-town life filled with quirky and intrusive but well-meaning characters and I could see the townspeople interacting with one another, I could picture Main Street, Josephine’s diner, the crowd sitting in the stands during a football game, standing on the sidewalk during the Thanksgiving parade, etc. Katie Lane made me want to visit Bramble, Texas!

I identified with the emotions that Hope experienced; from the jealousy and anger at Faith for ‘stealing’ her life to her insecurities and her feelings for Colt. The pace at which their romance unfolded was realistic and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
